So, like thousands of other Australians you're considering a drive along the Pacific Coast? Do it - you won't regret it.

It's the famous Sydney to Brisbane coastal run, the drive that has captivated travellers for as long as anyone can recall.

Starting from the glamour city of Sydney, a two hour drive up the coast brings you to Newcastle - the gateway to the historic Hunter Valley. While there, be sure to check out the surf at Merewether Beach and have a quiet drink at one of the bars situated at the Harbour foreshore, before heading north to the splendid waterways at Nelson Bay.

The twin towns of Forster-Tuncurry lie further north. Be sure to explore the area's forests, beaches and lakes.

If you're into water sports, check out the coastal resort towns of Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. And while you're in Coffs, get your photo taken outside the world's biggest banana.

After an inland drive through Grafton head back to the coast to Ballina and Byron Bay - the spiritual home of Australian surfing.

Another surfing mecca lies only a short drive north - the Gold Coast. Enjoy the Coast's beaches, theme parks, and busy nightlife before finishing your drive in Brisbane.
