Light Sleep
“Along
Australia’s coasts, it’s possible to walk through the towers and grounds of
many lighthouses and imagine what it must have been like for the keepers and
their families to live in them. Most are still in good working order,
and you can stay in some of the cottages overnight. Two of them can be
found on OZbedandbreakfast.com, a new website set up six months ago by Chris
Peck and his partner Leah. At the Smoky Cape lighthouse near South
West Rocks, the head light keeper’s home and assistant light keeper’s home
have been restored as guest accommodation. Another is the Cape Nelson
lighthouse on the Great Ocean Road, in Portland, Victoria. The website
also lists an old chapel in Longford, Tasmania, among its unusual
accommodation.”
