Sunday Herald Sun (Melbourne) - Sunday June 9, 2002 Lighthouse sleepovers
"Along Australia’s coasts it is possible to walk through the towers and
grounds of many lighthouses, allowing us to imagine what it was like for the
keepers and their families to live there. Most are still in good
working order, and you can stay in some of the cottages overnight. Two
of them can be found at this website.
At the Smoke Cape Lighthouse, South West Rocks, near Kempsey, NSW, the
head lightkeeper’s home and assistant lightkeeper's home have been restored
as guest accommodation. Another is the Cape Nelson Lightstation on the
Great Ocean Road, in Portland, Victoria. The website also lists an old
chapel full of antiques in Longford in Tasmania. It is only one of the
unusual places that offers out-of-the-box style accommodation. Check
out Ozbedandbreakfast.com for a great selection of B&Bs”.
